Interactive Map shows 10 years of casualties on Britain's roads
The ITO Road Casualties UK map is an interactive map which shows everyone who was killed or injured between 2000 and 2010 on UK roads. The map shows there were 32,955 fatalities and almost 3 million injured on UK roads. Each incident is broken down to show whether the victim was a pedestrian, cyclist, passenger or motorcyclist. The map also shows whether the injury was minor, serious or a fatality.
The deadliest Scottish road is the A9, which has around 200 accidents a year, with 14 fatalities last year alone. 13 of those fatalities occurred on the Perth-Inverness stretch of the A9.
The map, released by the charity Roadpeace, allows users to zoom in to the level of their own street and is available at http://map.itoworld.com/road-casualties-uk. The casualty data is based on Stats19 data collected by the police and made available through the Economic and Social Data Service (ESDS) and the UK Data Archive.
